M16 Military Knife

Those with a military background know what it means to earn the rank of Sergeant Major. After Kit Carson retired from the U.S. Army at that rank, he became a custom knifemaker, and began making his custom M16s® for his former colleagues.

His M16M models are identical in construction to the popular CRKT aluminum M16, offering the same sure-grip contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized in Olive Drab. The stainless steel locking liners with friction grooves are also black Teflon® plated.

The blades are imprinted with Gary Paul Johnston’s 1* (one-ass-to-risk) reminder logo. All three models feature AUS 8 stainless steel blades with Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges, chosen for edge retention and durability. Black titanium nitride coating gives superior corrosion resistance. All models feature the Carson Flipper extension to the blade, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.

The M16-14M Big Dogs are hefty, full-size working knives with an extra strong dual grind Tanto blade.

The M16-13M features a spear point blade with a false top edge. It is a slim profile design that is ideal for a variety of carry positions.

The M16-12M is a little bulldog, packing a lot of power in a compact package. The dual grind Tanto blade offers maximum strength.

One-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth, the result of Teflon® bearings at the blade pivot. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides instant access in any circumstance.

We have also incorporated the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®), which makes the folders virtual fixed blades when actuated.

Every model features a removable black Teflon plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip. In 2004, Germany’s Messer Magazine conducted an exhaustive comparison test of six leading tactical folders. On the basis of blade and pivot strength, retention of cutting edge, action, and value, Messer’s editors declared, “The Columbia River M16 took the award . . . The quality control of this knife was flawless.”

These knives share a unique design offering a combination of M16 Aluminum Series features requested by a military procurement specialist. The dual grind Tanto-style combination edge blades were specified because they offer maximum strength. The M16 open build allows two Carson Flippers to be incorporated, resulting in a true hilt— very rare in folding knives. Blade, frame and hardware are all non-reflective black.

The SFs also feature the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®), which effectively turns the folders into fixed blades when actuated.

The result is a design that gets blasé knife enthusiasts suddenly excited. When open, with LAWKS actuated, it offers the strength, rigidity and safety of a hilted fixed blade. Release the LAWKS lever, release the locking liner, and it folds to an easily carried length. You have the advantages of a fixed blade with--out the disadvantage of a costly sheath carry system. Two sizes are available.

M16-13SF Slim Profile. This model features a 3.50” (8.9 cm) blade and weighs only 3.5 oz. (99 g). It is ideal when weight and bulk must be kept to a minimum.

M16-14SF Big Dog. This is our hefty utility version, with a 3.875” (9.8 cm) blade and full size handle with butt pommel which is exceptionally useful in tactical situations. Weight is kept to 5.4 oz. (153 g).

The CRKT production aluminum frame SFs are based on Kit Carson’s custom M16 design. They feature contoured handles of textured, black, hard anodized 6061 T6 aluminum, with a perimeter radius for a comfortable grip with or without gloves. Stainless steel locking liners with friction grooves, for positive locking. AUS 8 stainless steel blades, chosen for edge retention and durability, with non-reflective black titanium nitride coating for maximum corrosion resistance. Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges for rugged cutting tasks.

One-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth, the result of precision tolerances and Teflon® bearings. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides instant access in any circumstance. Each knife comes with two stainless steel black Teflon-plated clothing/gear clips, extra screws and a Torx® tool, allowing four position carry on belts or webbing— tip up, tip down, left or right.

M16 Titanium Folder

M16 Titanium Folder

Kit Carson, designer of the M16® Series, became famous for his custom titanium frame M16s. True to Kit’s custom design in all details, the production M16T models have been taken a step further with the addition of the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®), which converts them into virtual fixed blades when engaged.

The handles, which form the open-build frame, are CNC machined from 6AL4V titanium. The result is a better strength-to-weight ratio than steel or aluminum, and an almost indestructible frame. The titanium frame is minimally ceramic bead blast finished to enhance grip. The single 420J2 stainless steel locking liner with friction grooves provides positive locking.

Blades are AUS 8 stainless steel, chosen for edge retention and durability, in non-reflective fine bead blast finish, with Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges on the two larger sizes. This steel can handle the most rugged cutting tasks and still be field sharpened.

Of course, the T models feature the signature “Carson Flipper” extension to the blade, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.

Our new M16-01T is similar to our Every Day Carry M16 spear point models, but in a titanium build. It is just that much smaller, lighter and slimmer, making it easier to carry.

The slim profile M16-13T has a spear point blade, a very popular slender shape that is ideal for a variety of carry positions.

The “Big Dog” M16-14T is a hefty, full-size working knife with a dual grind modified Tanto-style blade.

One-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth, the result of Teflon® bearings at the blade pivot. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides instant access in any circumstance. Both models feature a removable Teflon plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip.

Faithful replicas. Premium quality. Precise. Smooth. Amazing value for those who want the ultimate M16. Kit Carson still marvels at how well our production titaniums compare to his customs.

Mo'skeeter Folding Knife

Mo'skeeter Folding Knife

This is the CRKT answer to the need for a quality, affordable lockback folder that has a more usable blade than our popular Wrangler lockback. It is large enough for serious work tasks, yet lightweight and very strong.

The molded one-piece Zytel® handle has been designed for sure grip, with a contoured handle design and checkered logo pattern surface. At 3.875” long, the handle is large enough for tough cutting chores.

The slim profile and light weight of only 2.0 oz. allow easy pocket carry.

The quality 420J2 stainless steel blade with satin finish has a tough, durable cutting edge. Two models are available with Razor-Sharp or Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated cutting edges.

This is a true ambidextrous knife with dual thumb studs—useful for left handers—that is handy and easy to open with one hand. For cutting jobs that require holding and assembly with one hand and opening the knife with the other, it’s a snap. The Mo’Skeeter™ is also designed to be closed with one hand. In addition, the removable stainless steel clothing/gear clip can be attached to either side of the handle.

We know there are many who still prefer the lockback design for its simplicity and locking characteristics. The Mo’Skeeter adds an extra element of safety because during closing, there is a hitch at the 90 degree position, reminding one to keep fingers clear from the blade channel.

The Mo’Skeeter is built to CRKT’s high quality standards, including an adjustable Torx® blade pivot.

We believe the Mo’Skeeter is a truly exceptional value, and we invite comparisons with other lockbacks in its class.

You can afford to buy several, and keep one in your tool box, one in the glove compartment, and one in your pocket.

Van Hoy Snap Lock
Van Hoy Snap Lock
Van Hoy Snap Lock and Snap Lock 2

Ed Van Hoy is a well-known Virginia custom knifemaker and instructor who has a flair for the dramatic and unusual. When his custom Snap Lock™ was given the “Most Innovative Knife Award” at the American Knifemakers’ Guild Show, we knew we had to offer a production version, and here it is, the CRKT Snap Lock. It immediately won the Designer Knife award at the 2004 IWA show in Nuremberg, Germany, and was named “Overall Knife of the Year” at the 2004 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia.

When closed, the AUS 4 stainless steel wishbone frame is a 100% effective blade edge guard; when open, it is a minimal but very usable handle. The harder you grip the handle, the more it locks the blade in place, thanks to twelve positive locking surfaces between the frame and locking lugs, so it is a very safe and secure system.

The next question was, “When can I get a smaller personal version?” Ultimately, we were able to create the Snap Lock 2 at 70% of the original size, resulting in a little gem with a 1.75” (4.4 cm) blade, weighing only 1.5 ounces (43 g).

Ed’s cam locking system features two thumb wheels, for truly ambidextrous use. The pocket/money clips are removable, and left and right clips are included with the larger model. The blade can pivot a full 360 degrees with no clip, or 180 degrees in either direction with a stainless steel clip in place. Simply press the thumb wheel and rotate the blade. Opening and closing can be accomplished with one hand and is truly slick and quick.

The AUS 4 stainless steel blade itself has a subtle drop point shape, almost a Wharncliffe, and is available in both Razor-Sharp or Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges. Five lightening holes also add a decorative touch.

Blade, frame, and clip have a contemporary bead-blast finish.

t has been called a “far-out folder” but the more you handle and carry the Snap Lock, the more you realize it is one great work tool. All-steel construction means it is just about indestructible, and will last for years. The handle itself is likely the biggest “spring” ever devised for a knife-locking mechanism, so it will last for the life of the knife.

“The decisions of the jury were almost unanimous,” stated Margaret Spindler, Chair of the IWA jury and consultant for the Knife Award. The jury commented, “Everything in one: gadget, ornament, utensil and money clip.”

Wrangler Lock Back Knife
Wrangler Lock Back Knife
Wrangler Lock Back Knife

This is not rocket science. This is the best little affordable pocket knife we can make. An ultra-light, fiberglass-reinforced nylon frame builds tremendous strength in this slim profile lock back. Designed to fit comfortably in your pocket, the Wrangler’s taper ground, drop-point blade opens and closes with a minimum of effort.

CRKT builds the Wrangler with a special hex head fastening system that lets you tighten the blade to its proper tension throughout the knife’s long life.

The 420J2 stainless steel blade with fine bead blast finish is so durable it greatly reduces chipped edges and broken tips.

A heavily checkered handle gives you a comfortable and steady grip that makes your work easier. The comments we get about the Wrangler indicate that we’ve done the job right: “Really precision built.” “Featherweight and well balanced.” And perhaps most revealing: “This is a lot of knife for the price—and not a toy, but a quality work tool.”
