14k Series Folding Knives

Sometimes your life depends on the tools you select—tools such as your pitons, ice axe, crampons and knife. Because climbers regard reaching the summits of the 14,000 ft. North American peaks as the pinnacle of achievement, we named this popular line the 14K Summit™ series.

We began with our powerful InterFrame locking liner construction in an easily cleaned open build, with nickel chrome plated zinc alloy scales featuring an aircraft-style drilled “skeleton” design. Weight is reduced without compromising the exceptional strength. The dual liners are 420J2 stainless steel. Handles are designed with an extended guard, generous size and bead-blast finish to give you extra gripping power. Friction grooves at the lock and on the blade spine improve grip in wet and icy conditions.

The high-carbon, 420J2 stainless steel blades feature a rugged modified drop point shape and bead blast finish. Blade grinds are engineered to retain maximum thickness at the tip and through the length of the spine. This blade is built for real work. Triple-Point™ Serrations are available on all sizes.

Integrated into the design is the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®), which effectively converts your folder into a virtual fixed blade— very reassuring when you are using your knife for difficult and tiring tasks.

The Mt. Whitney and Denali feature hefty 3.50” blades. The Long’s Peak and Mt. Rainier offer 2.875” blades, while the Pike’s Peak and Mt. Shasta are more pocketable models with 2.375” blades.

Double grooved ambidextrous thumb studs allow you to comfortably open or close the blade with a single, smooth, one-handed motion, aided by the Teflon® bearings at the blade pivot which guarantee continued smoothness.

All fasteners are Torx® , proven superior in initial assembly and owner maintenance, such as tightening the pivot screw for proper blade tension after years of heavy, sustained work loads. The convenient stainless steel clothing/gear clip is Teflon plated and easily removable, attached with three Torx fasteners.

In designing this series, we set out to reach the summit of tough, strong folding knives. It’s all about excellence and achievement. If you’re comparing all-alloy, multi-purpose knives, we’ve set the standard. We trust you’ll agree.

Cascade Lockback Knife
Cascade Lockback Knife
Cascade Lockback Knife

Jim Hammond’s Cruiser series of customs seemed like an ideal starting point in our development of a high quality affordable lockback work folder. As the first custom knifemaker and Knifemakers’ Guild member to work with CRKT, he understood the translation necessary to arrive at our new production Cascade Lockback.

The blade is a Hammond modified clip point shape, hollow ground from 420J2 stainless steel with a bead blast finish, and available with a Combination Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edge.

For maximum comfort, we used our Twin-Fused™ handle technology using a rigid, injection molded high-impact polycarbonate frame with a soft, comfortable diamond patterned injection molded Kraton® grip for a firm, safe hold. This build, combined with the rounded handle cross section, deep finger choil with guard, pronounced butt pommel and blade thumb ramp with friction grooves, results in one of the most secure and comfortable grips in any folder, at any price.

This is a truly ambidextrous knife. Dual thumb studs allow fast either-hand opening. We designed the lockback mechanism with a mid-lock on the spine, at a point difficult to accidentally release. To make closing safer, and to allow one-handed closing, we added a “hitch” at the 90 degree point. When the lock bar is released with the blade up, the blade swings down 90 degrees and stops, reducing accidental cuts. You can then shift the Cascade to your palm and press the blade closed.

A custom, removable stainless steel pocket/gear clip allows secure carry in pocket, on webbing, and on tool aprons. And for those who prefer a traditional belt carry, a molded closed cell foam Cordura® fabric bidirectional carry scabbard is included.

For hunters and outdoorsmen, we also offer the Cascade with a film dipped Realtree® camo handle and carry scabbard.

We think the Cascade is ideal for anyone who has daily, lengthy carving or cutting tasks. In our testing, we cannot find the annoying little pressure points that often cause blisters with repetitive use. So if your present work or outdoor knife is less than a perfect fit, you can really afford to give the Cascade a test grip at your favorite CRKT retailer.

Desert Cruiser Folder

Hammond Desert Cruiser Folder

Jim Hammond is highly regarded in Special Ops circles worldwide for both his tactical fixed blades and folding knives. His Desert Cruisers™ were created to blend like a chameleon into the desert realm, the desert tans of its corrosion resistant titanium nitride coated blade and contoured Zytel® scales disappear as part of the subtle tones of combat camouflage.

The Cruiser’s design is pure combat common sense. In translating Jim’s custom Cruiser into production, we used our extremely strong InterFrame build with 420J2 stainless liners, one locking. The Desert Tan injection molded textured Zytel® scales are radiused and contoured to perfectly fit the hand. Their boldly textured surface provides grip security. The deep finger choil, serrated thumb ramp on the blade, and rounded parrot’s beak pommel, capture the hand for maximum control in multiple grip positions, forward or reverse.

To simplify the clean open build, a unique blade stop channel is CNC machined within the blade. This in turn, allows a friction grooved, tapered blade extension “flippers” to rocket the blade open with either hand. It also provides added thumb security when holding the knife edge up. Tactical Knives calls it “the sweetest flipper in the business.”

New this year is the Desert Cruiser Special Forces model, which features two flippers, resulting in a true hilt and giving extra thumb purchase.

Both use premium AUS 8 stainless steel for the clip-point blade. It has a high hollow grind that curves upward near the tip and a long false top edge, making it an exceptionally versatile tactical knife. The blade edge is Combination Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated. Dual thumb studs and Teflon® blade bearings allow smooth one hand opening and closing.

We’ve also incorporated the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®) into the Desert Cruiser, which makes the folder a virtual fixed blade when engaged.

Jim also designed a special paddle style clothing/gear clip system, which can be attached in four positions: tip up, tip down, left or right on belts or webbing. Two stainless steel Teflon® plated clips, hardware and Torx® tool are included.

Jim Hammond’s Desert Cruiser is one of the most advanced designs of its type. Designed to do its job and complete any mission. The knife of choice when the only easy day was yesterday.

Hammond Cruiser

Featured recently in Tactical Knives magazine, Jim Hammond’s Cruiser™ is a multi-purpose folder that has garnered much praise. In Tactical Knives, Pat Covert explains, “Hammond is all about design. Using a combination of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and exhaustive research . . . he spends much of his time up front honing a design before ever handling the steel.”

This fact is obvious as you study the Cruiser, which abounds with design subtleties. For example, the handle features a forward slanted friction grooved thumb ramp and a deep finger choil for the index finger, allowing what is known as the “fencer’s grip”.

To simplify the clean open build, a unique blade stop channel is CNC machined within the blade. This in turn, allows a friction grooved, tapered blade extension (or flipper) which aids opening the Cruiser, and then neatly completes the finger choil. It has been called “the sweetest flipper in the business.”

In translating Jim’s custom Cruiser into production, we used our extremely durable InterFrame build with 420J2 stainless steel liners, one locking. The injection molded black textured Zytel® scales featuring our Operator’s Grip are radiused and contoured with swells to perfectly fit the hand. The long handle, with a pronounced pommel, feels secure and entirely right.

Our work and sport version of the Cruiser uses tough AUS 4 stainless steel for the clip-point blade. It has a high hollow grind that curves upward near the tip and a long false top edge, making it an exceptionally versatile work tool. Both Razor-Sharp and Combination Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges are available. Dual thumb studs and Teflon® blade bearings at the blade pivot allow smooth one hand opening and closing.

We’ve also incorporated the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®) into the Cruiser, which makes the folder a virtual fixed blade when engaged.

To give the Cruiser maximum utility in a variety of work situations, we had Jim design a special paddle style clothing/gear clip system, which can be attached in four positions: tip up1, tip down, left or right. Two clips, hardware and Torx® tool are included. The stainless steel clips are Teflon® plated.

We know Jim designed the Cruiser for speed, strength, and grip, but we can’t help but note it is also one of the most pleasing shapes ever built as a folder.

1. The Cruiser is not designed for tip up in pocket carry.

Hissatsu Folder
Hissatsu Folder
Hissatsu Folder

James Williams is actively involved in teaching Military special operations and government security professionals who must at times perform their daily high-risk duties in environments which do not allow them to carry firearms or a large fixed blade knife such as the Hissatsu™. At training sessions and demonstrations, they have asked James to design a folder with the defensive power of the Hissatsu that can be a concealed carry in a pocket or clipped comfortably under a jacket. The result is the CRKT Hissatsu™ Folder. Blade length is 3.875”, which is safely under the legal limit in most jurisdictions, while blade finish is non-reflective black Teflon® coating.

The blade shape is a classical Samurai design which gives outstanding penetrating power as well as exceptional slashing performance. We have used our premium AUS 8 stainless steel for the optimum in strength and edge-holding ability with very good stain resistance.

For rapid deployment, we have incorporated our patented (1) OutBurst™ assisted opening mechanism which instantly springs the blade fully open after you have opened the blade approximately 30 degrees. To meet jurisdictional regulations, the OutBurst mechanism can be quickly disabled with a single set screw. Our 2903Q model is a conventional non-assisted opener intended for those regions where assisted opening is out of the question.

As the blade is opened it locks automatically with our patented (2) AutoLAWKS™ safety. This makes the Hissatsu Folder a virtual fixed blade, which is important in high-stress rapid-deployment situations.

We have used a heavy-duty version of our stainless steel InterFrame build with beefy 0.059” 420J2 stainless steel liners, one locking, and black Zytel® scales, textured to provide a secure grip. A thumb disk allows rapid opening with either hand, and the custom Teflon®-plated stainless steel clip can be quickly and easily mounted right- or left-handed with a single screw, yielding a knife that is truly ambidextrous.

Here’s a tactical knife for the professional that is overbuilt to last. For those who have a need to use it, this is as much defensive security as you can find in a tactical folder.

Kasper Folding Knife
Kasper Folding Knife
Kasper Folding Knife

Bob Kasper, writer and knife use instructor, has a very clear vision of what must go into an effective tactical work tool—and what must not. Period. Working with custom knife maker and Knifemakers’ Guild member Pat Crawford to translate his ideas into a folder, the two came up with the ultimate custom folding knife. We at CRKT have slavishly translated every dimension and specification into a very affordable personal confidence builder. In addition, we’ve added the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®) to provide lock security under extreme use.

Construction is an extremely heavy duty build, with the thickest stainless steel liners we have ever used. The result is an authoritative feel with perfect balance at the deep index finger choil.

The handle shape is classic Kasper profile, ample without being cumbersome. The textured black Zytel® scales are flat with no swell so the knife won’t print in the pocket, and to make drawing smoother. The thumb scallop on the left scale acts as an index point for the initial grip and draw, is also a ramp leading down to the thumb stud, and helps the index finger secure a more positive grip. The thumb ramp has aggressive friction grooves to ensure thumb purchase under slippery conditions.

The blade is a stout, modified clip point of 420J2 stainless steel, double hollow ground and bead blast finished to cut reflectivity. Both Razor-Sharp and Combination Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated blades are available. The thumb ramp features double thumb studs for ambidextrous use.

Construction is our industry-leading InterFrame build: 420J2 double stainless steel liners, 6061 T6 hard anodized aluminum back spacer, Torx® fasteners and Teflon® bearings for buttery smooth opening and closing.

The gray Teflon custom plated clothing/gear clip is mounted on the leading edge of the handle, resulting in a low-in-the-pocket storage.

In this rough world, there is no better friend to take along than the CRKT Crawford/Kasper™ folder.

Lightfoot M1
Lightfoot M1
Lightfoot M1 Folder

We work with custom knifemakers like Greg Lightfoot, because frankly, they are never satisfied. They are always looking for perfection, to take their next design further. Greg has achieved a new level of performance in the production version of his M1® design, with a unique blade grind, asymmetrical contoured frame, deeply textured scales and a “Mako Flipper” blade guard, all aimed at improving grip and cutting power.

Greg explains the blade: “It is a refined Tanto shape with a custom-style hollow grind, slight belly and recurve and a hint of a drop point. I call it a ‘Millennium Tanto’. The false edge on the spine improves penetration while maintaining strength.” The blade is premium AUS 8 stainless steel with black titanium nitride non-reflective coating for superior corrosion resistance, with Razor-Sharp or Combination Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edges.

To aid grip, there are aggressive friction grooves on the thumb ramp and the Mako Flipper, which is a sleek blade guard when open. The flipper, plus dual checkered thumb studs, allow fast opening with either hand.

We used a heavy duty open version of our InterFrame build, with dual black 420J2 stainless steel liners, one locking, and custom injection molded contoured black Zytel scales textured with a special “operator’s grip”, hexagonal pattern. The entire handle “package” is designed for maximum comfort and grip.

The M1 is assembled with black stainless steel spacers and Torx® fasteners, and Teflon® bearings are at the blade pivot, standard on CRKT locking liner folders.

The unusual “paddle clip” design is heavy and wide to allow carry on straps, belting and gear as well as in the pocket. The four-position black stainless steel clip is removable, and gives the option of tip-up or tip down carry, left or right.

The patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®), makes the M1 folder a virtual fixed blade when actuated

At first glimpse, the M1 is a striking and unfamiliar shape. But, as Lightfoot says, “Grab it and it makes a fit. You instinctively know exactly where it is in your hand. And I believe that is a critical aspect in any successful knife design.”
